As a first-generation Haitian-American, I started to travel the world as a happy accident due to life's curveballs and a series of dashed hopes in my early 20s. Moving to South Korea to teach English completely veered me off the path of medicine that I dreamed of my entire life when I graduated from grad school.
As a result of my 26 month stint teaching English in South Korea, I have traveled to 60+ countries in over 15 years, during the grueling years of medical school (I did go back on that path), through a mind-boggling residency in New York, and currently as a practicing Pediatric physician in Texas.
And yet, due to my sheltered upbringing, I am scared of EVERYTHING! But I went anyway, and I did it while scared...and have been traveling while scared all along.
